Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Grant Writer/Communications Specialist will research grant opportunities that match the goals and objectives of KPTS Channel 8.

The Grant Writer will gather information from various departments and coordinate, write and submit grant proposals to various funding entities including local, state, and federal government funders, as well as various corporations and foundations that supply grant dollars.

Once a grant is awarded, the Grant Writer will also monitor grant status and perform analytical work in writing, maintaining, reviewing and coordinating grant-administration.


This position requires walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching. Information technology requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.

Information technology requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate forms and reports as needed.

Functions of the Position:

» The primary focus of this position is to research, identify and submit grant proposals (local government, state government, national government, PBS and other foundations) as appropriate. During this process, the person will gather information from various KPTS departments that will help in the grant writing process.

» Establish timelines to complete the collection of significant data/information for proposal content, internal routing and approvals, and submission to funding sources

» Maintain accurate and timely records of research activities, funding logs and reporting deadlines, grant funding resource materials and publications

» Monitor program compliance for continuity as related to contract/grant administration.

» Contribute to department goals by accomplishing related tasks as required

» Follow up through telephone and e-mail on grant requests, or when appropriate through personal contact

» Meet deadlines

» Know basic arithmetic

» Other tasks as assigned, including crafting proposals to individuals when required

» 1-3 years of practice in grant writing, message development, communications plan development and project planning

» Demonstrated knowledge of communication practices and techniques, including developing communications for diverse audiences

» capability to research potential sources of foundation and grant support from local, state, federal, national and corporate funding sources

» capability to work on a broad range of grant proposals, multi-task, meet deadlines under pressure and work independently

» Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

» Self-starter with attention to detail and time management expertise

Education and practice :

» Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Communications, English, or related field

» 1 to 3 years of grant writing practice is preferred

» Strong communications expertise with the capability to write clear, structured, articulate and

persuasive proposals
» Basic knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies

» Knowledge of research techniques

» Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel

» Attention to detail, strong organizational expertise and excellent editing expertise

» capability to prioritize work appropriately, work independently but also take direction when necessary and meet deadlines

» Possess integrity and demonstrate professionalism

» Have a valid Driver's License and capability to drive

income: negotiable
