My name is Kay Durden, I am a hat making instructor with more than twenty years experience, and will be conducting my last 2012 workshop in Amarillo Texas November 3-4th. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE 2013 SCHEDULE AND WILL POST IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. These and all my workshops are great for Red Hatter, sewing groups, anyone interested in hats, fashion, or creating their own styles. Since both workshops consist of hand sewing, additional time outside the workshop will likely be necessary to complete the covered hats.

Early registration for the November workshop is encouraged because the deadline is October 6, 2012 and space is limited to ten. Hours for this workshop are Saturday November 3rd from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday November 4th from 1:00-9:00 PM at:

The Quality Inn & Suites West
6800 Interstate 40 West
Amarillo Texas, 79106

Day one consists of covering. Those attending will learn millinery terms, where supplies may be purchased and proper techniques for covering four hat frames included in the registration fee. They will cover the frames using fabric or other materials of their choosing.

Day two consists of frame making and attendees will hand block buckram into hat shapes of their choice using wooden hat blocks and other materials included in the registration fee. These buckram frames may later be covered with fabric using information from day one. Experienced milliners are invited to come make their own hat frames utilizing my hat blocks. Participants and non-participants may also purchase ready-made hat frames.

The registration fee each day is $175.00. Both workshops include supplies; however, those attending the covering workshop must also bring outer fabrics, embellishments, and sewing notions. Everything necessary for the frame-making workshop is included except sewing notions. More info on website;
