Corporate Controller Client Our client, a large publically traded organization, is a diversified designer and industrial goods manufacturer of high-quality assemblies. It enjoys 50+ years of success with clients, suppliers, and partners around the world. Geographically, the company is located in the Central Midwest. However, information regarding the organization is currently confidential and will be shared with qualified candidates at our client's discretion. Responsibilities Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Corporate Controller ("Controller") is responsible for accurate and timely financial statements, including statements of cash flow, manage external financial audits, establish and monitor internal controls, provide financial planning and analysis, manage financial software implementations, and analyze financial data to varying degrees in a dynamic, high-growth, fast paced, multi located and shared services environment. The Controller will manage, develop, and mentor a complement of approximately 70 FTEs through five direct reports, which include the Assistant Controller and Managers Accounting, Incurred Accounting, and International Consolidations. S/he will carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. This will include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Implementing all new accounting (eg, FASB & GAAP) pronouncements. Leading and directing accounting procedures to ensure understanding of compliance with GAAP/SEC accounting policies. Providing reliable, accurate, and timely financial information to the Corporate Office. Consultants in Executive Search Ensuring that an adequate internal control environment exists along with compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley. Managing the external audit relationship and processes with the Company's outside accounting firm of record, Ernst & Young. Planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing and evaluating the organization's fiscal function and performance. Participating in the development of plans and programs as a strategic partner. Providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends. Studying long-range economic trends and projects for future growth in overall sales and market share, opportunities for acquisitions or expansion into new product areas. Estimating requirements for capital, land, buildings, and increase in the work force. Reviewing reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and suggesting methods of improving the planning process as appropriate. Evaluating and advising the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action. Enhancing and/or developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems and processes that will improve overall operation and effectiveness Continually improving the annual operating plan ("AOP"), estimate at completion ("EAC") budgeting processes, through education of department managers on financial issues affecting their budgets. Providing strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization (ie: evaluation of potential acquisitions and/or mergers, capital expenditures, overhead management, etc.). Coordinating with Treasury a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash thresholds to meet operating needs. Serving as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the Company may enter. Evaluating the finance organization and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth. Offering technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline. In addition to normal acclimation into the company and its culture, short-term, immediate objectives of the position will include, but will not be limited to: (1) implementing changes associated with ASC 606 accounting changes, (2) establishing controls to improve accuracy of accounting data, (3) developing and instituting a commitment to fully utilize existing accounting software for consistency purposes, and (4) leveraging or locating resources to maximize expense/cost control. Education and Experience Current experience as a sitting Controller or Assistant Controller at a similar size and scope public corporation. Consultants in Executive Search Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in financial reporting emanating from large publicly held enterprises with global operations will be viewed favorably. Manufacturing, Industrial Goods, and/or Engineering industry experience is preferred. Experience base should be in an environment with multiple locations including international sites. Minimum of 10 years of management, supervisory, and leadership experience is desired. Extensive knowledge of the principles of financial analysis and reporting, accounting and budgetary control. Ability to interpret GAAP and related regulations for accounting staff and provide necessary training and guidance on compliance procedures. Experience working with sophisticated technology platforms and software (eg, SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Hyperion) will distinguish more sought-after candidates. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Master's degree preferred. Candidates with CPA designation will be given preferential consideration. Confident, mature presentation skills with an ability to develop immediate credibility with diverse parties ranging from the Key Global Executives to the Board of Directors and the CEO. Individual should be process-oriented, yet flexible; deals well with ambiguity. Accepts and fosters a positive outlook toward change and improved financial management. Independent worker with high level of energy who can take an active approach to the auditing affairs of the company. An executive who fosters teamwork across the organization and can build a top performing team from the ground up. Compensation Compensation will be market-based, corresponding to the experience level, credentials, and personal characteristics of the candidate. Incentive compensation will be a key component of the package and include short and long-term incentive possibilities.
